Trees we plant

The tree species we work with are chosen for their suitability to local growing conditions and their value to the farmer whose lands they are planted on

This selection of which species to plant is made together with the farmer on who's land the trees will be planted. Trees4Trees suggests a mix of species that will be most suitable to a particular plot's soil and exposure along with the farmer's economic goals. Finally it is the farmer's decision which species are actually planted. In this way, the farmer is fully engaged to cultivate and protect the trees and success is assured.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Sp)

Cinnamomum Sp is an evergreen tree that reaches a height of 8-17 m in the wild. In an unharvested state, the trunk is stout

Rasamala (Altingia excelsa)

Altingia excelsa is an evergreen, monoecious, large and lofty tree, 40-60 m high, with straight bole and branching at 20-35 m above the ground

Jambu air (Syzygium aqueum)

Watery rose apple is usually an evergreen shrub or small tree with a small crown; it usually grows 6 – 10 metres tall, sometimes up to 15 metres

Mulwo (Annona reticulata)

The tree reaches 6.0 to 7.5 m in height, with many lateral branches; stems are cylindrical, with lenticels and very short coffee-coloured hairs

Jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum)

In its area of distribution, jengkol is a popular food and local production is considerable; however, no statistics are available. Fruits (containing the seeds) are traded on local markets only.

Tanjung (Mimusops elengi)

Mimusops comprises about 40 species, 20 of which occur in mainland Africa, 15 in Madagascar, 5 in the Seychelles and Mascarene islands, and 1 in Asia
