Being Green at Home

We all, individually have a carbon footprint. Everywhere, all the time. When we exhale, we release CO2, when you use paper, another tree may be cut to make more paper. We already know that carbon accumulated in the atmosphere can cause global warming which is happening right now. Climate changes are upsetting the conditions that many species need to survive and many will soon be gone forever.

Here we give some simple tips for green living at home to reduce our carbon footprint and save our planet. These are simple, easy ways and there aren’t any excuses for not doing it.

1. Save energy
Turn things off when not in use, such as the lamp, air conditioner, fan or other home electronics. You can save on your monthly electricity bills and help they environment at the same time.

2. Save water
Take quicker showers, you will use less water.

3. Wash only full laundry loads
When you wash clothes with half a load you will use more water, detergent and electricity. Besides it makes your life easier and there will be less detergents to pollute the water.

4. Close the fridge
When you open your refrigerator for a long time, it has to work harder to bring the temperature down again. Close the door when you are not in front of it and you’ll save energy. Your food will last longer too.

5. Buy only what you need
Studies have shown that around 1/3 of all the food produced in the world goes to waste. In some countries the food wasted is as high as 60%. Buy what you need and use it all. This will also reduce plastic packaging from the items you buy. Save money, help nature.

6. Bring reusable bags for shopping
This will help you to carry your goods and reduce plastic bags that end up in landfills. Remember, it can take over one hundred years to decompose a plastic bag and the material it is made of in non-renewable.

7. Eat more veggies
Yes, vegetables and fruits are absolutely the best food for our body – and our environment. When you support this way of life, surely you will reduce carbon footprint.

8. Do the 3R – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
This will help to reduce trash that is a big problem in every country. Don’t waste anything that you can still use by converting it into something you can use again.

9. Plant a tree!
Make your yard greener by planting some trees. Besides being shady and fresh, the trees will ultimately reduce your carbon footprint.
